Austin Film Fest to Offer Both In-Person and Virtual Access for 2021

The Austin Film Festival is set to kick off its 28th year this week, offering a range of in-person events alongside online virtual programming. Since its creation in 1994, the festival has been committed to the furthering of “the art and craft of storytelling, by inspiring and championing the work of writers, filmmakers, and all artists who use written and visual language to tell a story.” The festival prides itself as the first of its kind to shine a special light on the contribution of writers in film and television, and seeks to build community for writers to grow and develop as one.

This year, the Austin Film Festival will host more than 200 panelists in the world, exploring storytelling mediums such as plays, digital series and podcasts, as well as the more traditional realms of film and television. Past years’ participants include Robert Duvall, Sydney Pollack, Natalie Portman, Larry Wilmore, and Gary Shandling. Events on this year’s program will include features such as film screenings, roundtables, pitch sessions and more. A host of virtual events are on the schedule for 2021 as well, including conference panels with guests such as Jeff Nichols, David Self, Tracy Oliver, and Pixar Animation writers Mike Jones and Jason Headley.

Conference venues for the 2021 season include The Driskill Hotel, Austin Club, 800 Congress, the Omni Austin Hotel Downtown, St. David’s Episcopal Church, The Hideout Theatre, Long Center for the Performing Arts, Paramount Theater, State Theater, St. David’s Episcopal Church and Galaxy Highland Theater. All venues are within easy walking distance to some of the best restaurants, attractions and accommodations downtown Austin has to offer. Festival passes begin at just $75 per person for the “Film Pass”, granting access to Q&A sessions and all film screenings for the full duration of the event.
