Read on to discover five of the best local spots to beat the Texas heat.
Quest ATX
Cable wakeboarding is a popular new trend in the world of water sports. Thrill-seekers are towed along the water by an overhead cable, for an adrenaline-filled rush similar to jet skiing. A world-class cable wakeboarding experience can be found at Quest ATX, located just southeast of town.
Quest ATX was Austin’s first cable wakeboard park and is divided into two sections: Quest Wakeboard Park, and Quest Water Park. In the wakeboard sector, guests can enjoy the state-of-the-art facility, equipped with the latest equipment to satisfy every wakeboarding enthusiast, from the casual hobbyist to seasoned experts. Those new to the sport can test the waters with Quest’s “System 2.0” beginner course, accompanied by knowledgeable and friendly staff. Wakeboarding equipment is available for rental onsite.
At Quest Water Park, adventure awaits with a massive obstacle course, two-tower swing, scenic lake and two 85-foot water slides. Guests can access either side of the complex individually, or purchase an all-access pass for both the water park and wakeboarding experience. Quest ATX also offers a special summer camp each year for children ages 7 to 15. Campers learn the art of wakeboarding from expert staff, in a safe and supportive environment.
The park is located at 10815 FM1625 in Austin.

Barton Springs Pool
Though not a full-fledged water park, Barton Springs is a worthy attraction in its own right. Located on the grounds of the scenic Zilker Park, Barton Springs is a massive three-acre swimming pool fed from underground springs that keep the water at a comfortable 68-70 degrees year-round. The pool is home to the endangered Barton Springs Salamander and is therefore listed as a federally-protected habitat.
Nearby the pool bathhouse guests will find Splash!: an educational exhibition where swimmers can study the history and biology of Barton Springs, as well as the Edwards Aquifer from which it is fed.
Barton Springs is closed to the public every Thursday from 9 AM to 7 PM, to allow for extensive cleaning to meet cleanliness standards for both swimmers and the local wildlife. The pool is located on the grounds of Zilker Park, at 2131 William Barton Drive in Austin.
