Lammes Candies is a time-tested Austin company, founded in 1878 by William Wirt Lamme. It was originally known as Red Front Candy Factory, located on Congress Avenue. The business was nearly lost after William Lamme lost the deed in a game of poker–however, the debt was later paid by Lamme’s son, David. David reclaimed the shop and set out to continue the family’s tradition of candy making.
Lammes is famous for its bestselling item: “The Texas Chewie Pecan Praline.” The treat was created in 1892 by David Lamme, using only Texas-grown pecans for the recipe. In addition to its famous pralines, Lammes offers a variety of other treats including truffles, chocolates and taffy.
